Mirage Performance Forum Rules
General Forum Rules
- No flaming or trolling, period.
- This means that you are not to attack, insult, harass, belittle, threaten, accuse, or spread slander about another member, person, shop, website, etc. Nor are you to post a topic that is meant to attract flaming (trolling). This applies to all public posts, private messages and email. Public complaints and accusations are not welcome here. If you have a complaint about a vendor or possible scam artist, post it on Vendors-Reviewed.com. If you have a complaint against a member of our site with whom you've done a transaction with, use the Buyer/Seller Feedback feature to voice your discontent. If you want to praise a vendor, you can recommend a shop in your profile.
- No street racing posts, videos, topics condoning or discussions of street racing.
- This will result in a deletion of said post and a possible permanent ban. There are NO exceptions to this rule.
- Use good forum etiquette.
- • Be friendly and helpful at all times. No elitist or negative attitudes.
- • Please refrain from posting in all-caps since this is considered yelling based on internet etiquette
- • Heated discussions are permissible however keep it under control at all times
- • Do not incite riots or instigate fights. Please do not refrain from spirited discussions but do not intentionally start antagonistic or inflammatory threads directed at another member
- • Keep flaming to a minimum and keep it within reason. Excessive flaming will not be tolerated.
- • Do not post complaints regarding MPF, the software, the staff or the servers in a public forum. Email or PM a moderator or administrator
- • People found encouraging obvious trolls, and/or mindlessly postwhoring in the threads they create will be dealt with as well
- • If you post images that are not work-safe BUT not under the pornography heading make sure you add a warning in your thread title. DO NOT post such images directly into an existing thread that does not carry such a warning. Use a link instead.
- • Fill in your profile completely, including your Name, City, State and vehicle info.
- • Do not post info found in our forums on other website forums.
- • Avoid using profanity and/or vulgarities. Keep them to a minimum.
- • Respect our Signature Policy.
- No bumping threads.
- (Replying to your thread for the sole purpose of moving it to the top of the forum for more exposure). If your question doesn't get answered, it's either because you didn't provide enough info, your profile isn't filled in, or you asked a question that was already answered in our FAQ forum.
- Report bad posts as necessary.
- Do NOT get involved. If another member is breaking the rules, report the post and move on. Do not add to a thread that is in need of moderator attention. Do not try and tell other members what they've done wrong. If you have a complaint against one of the Moderators or Wisemen, handle it offline with the Site Administrator. Do not post your complaint publicly in the forums. Report posts which have broken the rules, posts which have gone off topic from the original subject, posts that contain misinformation, posts that contain spam or self promotion by a person or vendor, and threads that contain duplicate or similar subject matter to a past discussion.
- Screen Names.
- You are free to chose your screen name on MPF and are permitted to ONE (1) name change PROVIDED it conforms to the following guidelines:
- • No profanity either exact or implied
- • No sexually lewd/derogatory terms either exact or implied
- • No racially derogatory names either exact or implied
- • Not similar to, or a mimic of another member's screen name
- • Not excessively long. Keep it to 20 characters or less
- • If your screen name is found to be in violation the Mods/Admins reserve the right to alter the name and/or ban you without prior notice.
- • If you are found to have created a screen name with the express intent of mocking/mimicking/harassing a specific member, both the mimicked account AND your real account will be banned.
- • If your account, e-mail address, or IP address have been banned, any future attempts to access the forum will be blocked, without warning. There are no exceptions. If you believe the banning was accidental, please send an e-mail to [email protected] for review.
- Creation of Screen names similar to others:
- • Do not create a username that is similar to one already in existence for any reason at any time. Creation of such an account that is a mimic of a MPF staff member's name will be subject to an automatic ban of not only the mimicked account, but all other accounts owned by that user.
- • Creation and mimic of ANY existing user's account with the intention of being malitious or degrading towards that user are also subject to an automatic ban of not only the mimicked account, but all other accounts owned by that user.
- Avatar Guidelines.
- Common sense should rule however since some of you seem to lack it we have written the rules for everyone to see. You may use any avatar that does not fall under any of the following categories:
- • Sexually Explicit/Pornography - Clothed or not
- • Nudity - regardless of whether private parts are shown or not
- • Figures in a sexual or 'prone' position - clothed or not
- • Images that show private parts through clothing - eg: wet t-shirt pics
- • Images that are racially, politically or religously offensive
- • Images that contain vulgar or profane language
- • No avatars of a drug/narcotic nature
- • Basically if you could expect to see it in public then it is probably ok. Public places mean malls, stores, parks etc. Nude beaches ARE NOT considered public places.
- • Groups and associations retain the right to hold a copyright to an associative, original avatar. Avatars taken from other member's without the express permission from the original holder are subject to removal.
- • The Mods/Admins also reserve the right to rule on any avatar in a case-by-case manner. The above is a MINIMUM acceptable set of rules to follow. Keep in mind that this site is viewed by many people at work. Images that fall under any of the above categories are not appropriate for a work environment.
- • No Avatars of more than 125 x 125 pixels and 15kb in image size.
- Penalties For Violations:
- • Your avatar will be removed and you will be warned. You will not be asked to change/remove it. We will do so for you.
- • If you use a new avatar that meets the above criteria then no further action will be taken.
- • If your new avatar does not meet the above criteria then your avatar will again be removed and you will lose your avatar privileges indefinitely.
- • The Mods/Admins also reserve the right to ban members who blatantly disregard the criteria after their initial warning. If you have any questions regarding the appropriateness of an avatar please message any of the listed Admin/Moderators.
- When Asking/Answering Tech Questions
- • Be sure you've done research on the question before you ask. This site has been around a while now, and most of the basic questions and topics posted by newbies have already been covered here and in other DSM resources. Nobody here wants to answer the same questions over and over again. We've put together a list of links that should answer 95% of all DSM questions you might have in one of these areas. Read through them before posting a question:
- • Post in the correct forum, use a descriptive thread title, give as much info as possible and make sure your profile is filled in.
- • Do not reply to a thread with 'Use the Search' - answer the question, link to the answer, or don't reply at all. Explain your answer in detail. If someone is asking about which clutch is best for their application, don't just say 'ACT 2600'. Explain to them why you think the ACT 2600 is the best for their application. If you don't know why, then you probably aren't experienced enough to be answering their question in the first place.
- • No Guessing - if you don't know the answer for sure, don't reply - we don't need you spreading misinformation. If your reply contains phrases like 'I think', or 'I've heard', or 'everyone else does it', or 'my brother's uncle's friend did it and had no problems' - it is not useful. Only post a reply if YOU know the answer from YOUR own first-hand experience. Instead of replying with a guess, post a link to a thread where the answer can be found, or the same discussion already took place.
- • No getting off-topic - if you're not replying to the thread starter's question, take it to PMs/email or start a new thread.
- • If you come across a question that is answered in our FAQ Forum or in another area, report the thread and do not reply. We want to discourage duplicate questions and limit the amount of duplicate discussions that show up in our database.
- • If you ask a question and get the problem solved, be sure to reply to your own thread and let everyone know what solved it. If someone helps you with a tech problem, be sure and return the favor by giving that member reputation points for their helpful reply.
- Post-Whoring.
- Do not post-whore. Post-whoring is defined by MPF as the following:
- • Posts which contain no relevant contribution to the thread, topic, or site
- • Posting responses to a thread for the sole purpose of boosting post count
- • Posting derogatory and/or 1-word answers to a topic
- • Posts/Threads that are meaningless and lack the ability to elicit thought-provocative responses
- • Posting a short/simple response which shows you replied to the title and not the topic
- Threats of Violence.
- Do not make physical threats to any administrators, moderators or member at any time. These threats include, but are not limited to the following:
- • Threats of physical violence towards a member or a member's friends/family
- • Threats of stealing another member's possessions
- • Threats of vandalizing/defacing another member's possessions
- • Threats of hacking and/or defacing MPF, its software or its servers
-

- • Use of racial slurs either in general or directed at another member
- • Use of derogatory names/terms describing ethnic/religious groups
- • Posting of imagery that can be considered offensive or derogatory towards a specific ethnic/racial/religious group

- Members are cautioned to take the greatest care when referring to individuals not to insult another member by using a pejorative term referring to an individual's membership in a protected class. Moderators will actively pursue complaints raised about these issues, and enact sanctions, up to and including the deletion of the account of a habitual offender.
- Forum Spamming/Solicitation/Unauthorized Advertising.
- Do not spam MPF forums. Spamming is defined by MPF as the following:
- • Posting of links/ads/images in multiple forums for the purpose of promoting or selling products/services/websites not associated with MPF or its owners.
- • Posting nonsense responses to every thread in a forum in a rapid fashion
- • Posting links promoting other web sites without being a current site Sponsor
- Continuous/Habitual Rule Offender
- Any member who repeatedly/continually/intentionally violates Rules is subject to be considered as a habitual offender which will make them eligible for Severe Consequences.
- Reprimands/Consequences
- MPF staff reserve the right to adjust/apply any sanctions for any violation per the guidelines below. Also note that the staff reserves the right to make exceptions to the following guidelines on a case-by-case basis.
- Rule Violations may be punished by any of the following actions:
- • Verbal warning via post/PM/email
- • Application of post restrictions
- • Reset of post count

- Depending on the severity of Rule
- Violations - Users may be punished by any of the above actions but also add the following:
- • Temporary 7-10 day User account ban
- • User account deletion
- • User e-mail ban
- • User IP ban
- Note that no distinction is made based on time as a member or prior standing in regards to the severity of violations. They are serious in nature and any first-time offenses from any member can result in the most severe of the punishments listed.
- Anyone openly voicing their displeasure with the rules or how they're enforced will be removed NO exceptions.
- Appeals
- • If a user feels that a sanction was unjust or excessive he/she is encouraged to first talk with the moderator who assessed the violation.
- • Users can also email/PM an administrator.
- • Note however that there is no guarantee that an appeal will be heard or a decision overturned. Read: Don't hold your breath. If you do not receive a quick reply, assume we denied your request.

- Posting in the MPF Parts Trader section:
- 1.) New thread Subjects MUST start with in indication of why you created the post
- (WTB=Wanted to buy, FS=For sale, FT=For Trade, WTT=Want to trade, INFO=Information only).
- An Example Title would be 'WTB: Stock 1993 Colt Sedan Spoiler'.
- 2.) Valid contact information (email, phone, city/state for pick up, etc)
- 3.) Detailed description of the item(s) for sale, including condition
- 4.) Price! Do NOT list an item with 'make offers' POST A PRICE. This isn't ebay.
- If you dont post a price, it makes for useless lowballing. At least post 'Looking to get ' or a range if you aren't sure. Leaving it wide open does no good.
- 5.) If selling a car, or a motor alone you MUST post the VIN # of the car/motor. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!
- 6.) Provide links in info only posts, but please do not provide pricing.
- 7.) Posting non-Mirage related parts or cars for sale is not allowed on the board. Please use ebay, yahoo, or some other site to sell your stuff.
- 8.) After you have sold the item in question, please edit the title to reflect this, add a '- SOLD!' to the end of the title, so that we can properly purge the thread after a few days.
- 9.) If you have several items to sell, please list them all in ONE thread.
- 10.) Double check the Good Guy / Bad Guy Forum for feedback on the person you are buying parts from.
- That way, you can determine if he is a dependable guy on the board.
- Purchasing items from persons with no or bad feedback is on the purchaser's back.
- MPF management holds ZERO responsibility for deals turn sour.
- We are in the game of running a forum, not being law enforcement.
- RESEARCH THE PERSON YOU ARE DOING BUSINESS WITH, TO MAKE SURE YOU DONT GET SCREWED.
- 11.) You must include the location of the items in the body of the post. No we won't assume it's the same place as your signature lists, because sometimes the items are located elsewhere.
- 12.) No excessive bumping of your thread. If it's not selling it's not selling for a reason. Our parts trader section is not so busy that we should see successive bumps in a thread. Threads receiving excessive bumps will be locked.
- 13.) ALL MEMBERS posting replies: Meaningless replies, complaining of high prices, advertising a competitive product, etc will be deleted. If you don't like a post, ignore it. It's that simple. Posts that violate forum rules should be reported to the moderators.
